notes:

-the most widespread and common of Ranatra species in the U. S. (Sites & Polhemus 1994)

-usually in ponds, a few have been taken from rivers (Sites & Polhemus 1994)

-reports of this species in Texas as Curicta fusca prior to 1909 may be based on misidentification (Kirkaldy & Torre-Bueno 1909)

-specimens identified as R. fusca from Colorado & Lee Counties are now recognized as R. buenoi (Hungerford 1922c)
